moved all my cichlids form my 32 gal. to my 55gal. it was empty for maybe two weeks. i then started stocking it back. since then i have gone through 5 angels, i know that they are sensetive and need to be put in an established tank but come on, 1 ghost knife, and 5 platys. today i noticed something on the only remaining platy. it was something i can only descripe as a layer of cotton all over its body. it this something i need to worry about? havent tested water, so hopefully i just need to re - cycle. any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it is fungus or bacterial--they often look the same. Check your water parameters ASAP--illnesses come in when fish are stressed!
Look through these diagnostic charts to see if what has infected your fish:

http://fish.mongabay.com/diseases.htm

Two of these links talk about environmental stressors (I can't remember which ones ).

If possible remove the fish and put it in quarrantine. It is something to worry about, unfortunately. :(

And fungus and bacteria are very different things. In most cases, effective medications treat either fungus OR bacteria. Some of the broad-spectrum meds treat both ineffectually...

Menagerie is right that fungal and bacterial infections often look the same. I would also say that you should QT the platy for treatment. A med I have had good results with is Jungle Fungus Eliminator. It says that it treats bacterial and fungal infections. Since it's hard to tell what your platy has for sure (do you have a pic?), this is a good med to give him. It has worked well for me.

got some stuff called clout from the lfs. dissolvable tablets that treat leeches, lice, flukes, hexamita, ick, achor worms, protozoon parasites. Is this worth using or just a waste of time and should just take it back?

leeches, lice, flukes, hexamita, ick, achor worms, protozoon parasites
None of these are bacteria or fungus.
You neede to treat the cotton-like growth and Clout will not work.

I agree -- Clout isn't what you need in this case. But if you don't need your money back, I would hold onto it. I have some Clout on hand too. I feel that it's a good idea to have an antibiotic, antifungal, and anti-parasite med on hand. Sometimes you have to treat quickly and every minute counts, so having some meds on hand is good.
