Depends on what you want. I know a lot of people keep just 1 or 2 oscars in a big tank

You could do an apistogramma or ram, I'd opt for a pair, better viewing.

I think most apistos are heartier. Check into killifish, too. Great color and they don't need much space at all.

I had some for a while. Really wanted to breed them, but just didn't have time. Great little fish.

Neolamprologus multifasciatus would be fine...check them out..
