Is 5 gallons too small for a quarantine tank

I learned my lesson with not having one treating ich in the planted was a mess and I lost several fish to it so I am setting up the quarantine tank only problem is that I don't have space for anything over a 5 gallon desk top is it going to be too small of tank to use or will I be ok with changing half water every day I may be able to up to a 10 gallon but the only space I can put it is on my galas desk and I don't want to risk that much weight

I use a 5.5 and it works perfect for me, but I guess that depends on your stock though.
