im gonna make my own canopy for my 125 gallon tank and i wanna make sure that i get the lighting correct the first time. my plan is to buy a few home depot 4 foot florecent light fixtures and im not sure on how many to get. if anyone has better ideas let me know.its gonna be a fish only tank so i don't need the real powerful lighting set up for the corals, but i do want a nicely lighted tank. i want the fish to be happy and healthy

It would be pretty hard to overlight a tank with standard flourescent tubes so you will be safe.

sounds like you're going to under light yourself...especially if you have a reef. fish only will be ok...but you may want to consider throwing a couple actinics in there for asthetics.
