I found some pieces of wood near a freshwater pond/stream. The outside was quite dry and grayed. When I cut the wood the inside still looks a bit bright. Is this safe to use? Must you actually pull the wood up from the water? Or is washed up wood fine.

Using Driftwood

Hello Vis...

Soak the piece in a bucket of warm, treated tap water and add a tablespoon of standard aquarium salt. You can keep the piece in the water overnight. Just rinse it well before it goes into the tank. You'll likely need to weigh it down with some rocks. It should be fine.
