Saw this large white spot on our GSP yesterday and we aren't sure if it's ich or something else. I couldn't get a good picture anyone have any idea?

Any more details? Where is dot, size, what's it look like, etc, etc.

Stupid question but it's not tank debris or something? Every so often mine look like they have something but just a bit of plant junk or something.

Nope not tank debris....it looks raised I can't get a picture of it...

Any redness on the edges of it?

Also perhaps a silly question but just to close out - have you checked ammonia, ph, temp and nitrates?

No redness he is rubbing against leaves and stuff....and levels are perfect

That's good - that helps rule out bacterial (especially if eating and otherwise acting normal). But I'm honestly not sure. Did some reading back - could it be a heater burn at all off a tank heater?

GSP's are brackish puffers, marine as adults. It's hard to say but it could be a skin disease from remaining in freshwater too long.
It could also be a heater burn. If it keeps happening get a guard for it.
How long is it usually around for and how long is it gone before it returns?

He is in brackish water not freshwater...

It has been there now for a few days and hasn't gone away

Oh alright. I assumed freshwater with the amount of plants in there. What's your salinity at?

I'm definitely gonna go with heater burn though. Look into a guard for it or maybe a different heater.

I'm starting to think that too I'm going to try a guard and see if that helps....

And the salinity is around 1.008

Alright so the salinity is right at the top end of what the plants can handle. Is that a Top Fin heater?
