I can't see any other fish than a Betta in a 10 gallon, but it just me. Why not getting a 20 gallon long. It gives you more swimming room and stocking options ( quantity).
Seriously! I think most people started out with a 10 gallon. I remember my first tank was a opaline gourami a 3xdanios 2x black mollies and a few neons.
10 gallon is a great starter tank for community fish.
