I'm in the process of setting up a tank for a RES. I plan on having Amazon Sword Grass in the tank and using rocks to make one area to get out of water and turtle dock to bask. I've been reading about the reptile basking lights that heats and emits UVA/UVB. I was thinking of doing in house stuff in hopes of it being cheaper. I was reading on CFLs that you can use for UV radiation and was wondering if people use them. I figure if I go this route that I would have a second lamp with incandescent bulb for heat. Any recommendations to look at or is it better to get the all in ones?

The UVB and heat ones are often over 100$ instead of maybe 30$ for basking and 20$for the UVB

My local pet stores have all in bulbs at $60 bucks with CFL's with uv being like $20-30
