Little worm like things in middle or Feather Duster

Just got a feahter duster home from a LFS and noticed these little 1/8 th of an inch white worm like things in the middle of it. Some have even come out and stuck to the filter. The store had just gotten the shipment and he looks great but is not as responsive as i had imagined he may be????? First feather duster so not too sure if any or all of this is normal???
Any thoughts as always more than appreciated!!!!

PS My little blue and red legged hermit crabs are nibbl'n on the end of the FD's tube????
