Lumpy Ghost knife :(

All the levels in tank are good...he is 8 years old, has stopped eating, and swims vertically constantly...temp is great etc. but has a couple lumpy looking belly areas that are soft..is this dropsy? or could he have eaten gravel?
Is there anything I should try? HELP "Jack" seems to be in distress
No new tank mates, or changes.
