So we recently purchased a lungfish from our local petvalu where it was kept in a 10 gallon tank we figured get him in a bigger tank considering the corona virus quarantine might be the death of this guy if the store closes and he is in this small tank this was about a month ago and he’s now in a 4 foot long 75 gallon tank. Anyhow what I’ve noticed is there’s not much to find on lungfish keeping. So he’s a African marbled lungfish scientific name is Protopterus Dolloi. His main diet is krill although we have played around to see what else he may like and he’s ate frozen pinky’s (newborn mice), And brine shrimp. He has a 80 gallon biowheel filter that has a slow flow due to leaving a six inch gap of water between the water and the top of the tank. A heater is also running in his tank. We feed him 3 times a day usually a good ration of krill about every six hours and he seems happy most of the time. His personality is strange he mostly just hangs out either looking at me of the fish in our other 75 gallon he’s in the line of sight of. So the problem we’re facing is ammonia in his tank we did multiple test so far. The first test we did about a week ago was at a hard 4.0 ppm we did a 70% water change which brought it down to a 2.0 on my next text I checked again just now and it is again at a 4.0. I’m not sure what to do about it at this point. I’m assuming that he is creating this ammonia his self. I put the appropriate amount of ammonia nullifier in his tank after the test. Anybody have some advice or knowledge on this subject?
