I recently finished off my school of congos at 6 and all purchased as juvies, before they were sexable. I am worried that I now have only two female with four males with a bit of pushing and shoving going on. I don't want to up my number too high so are there any recommendations other than buying more known females to curb the alpha maleness going on? I feel like I'm watching a bunch of college freshmen when I watch the tank.

I have had four good-sized Congos in my 55 gallon for about two years now. I think I have three males and only one female. I really haven't noticed any problems with the group. I don't see much aggressive behavior like you describe.

Then again, I have a handful of large rainbowfish in there which are pretty active as well...maybe they cause enough distraction that the Congos aren't getting crazy with each other.

Just an update. They seem to have settled down a bit. I think it was the introduction of new danios to the tank. I have four more to add so I hope they can take it. I'm a little worried. I think I might need a backup plan.
