I am consolidating tanks, and I have a nice chunk of driftwood that would be nice in my Malawi tank. Is this a bad idea? It would probably lower my ph, right?

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Initially it could. Depending if you have anything buffering the ph currently.

I keep south and central american cichlids. I put my wood through the dish washer without detergent to get rid of the tannins. Same thing as boiling it 10+ times, does the same thing but alot less time. I would say you definitely could.

Unless your water is super soft (with little buffering capacity), the effects of the driftwood shouldn't be enough to cause concern.

i had them before with no ill effects. but, i did have a cement background in the tank, and the local water is like liquid rock :).
