i came up with an idea i'm tring out
i was in a lfs that had new stock
that was acclimating new specimens in those small plastic kritter cages

so i thought "how bout a mini fuge IN my tank"
so i got a 1 gallon round plastic kritter cage drilleda few holes , put some
macroalgae(calupera) and set it in the tank

so as the macroalgae grows removing nitrate ,etc
the algae will poke out the top when it does my tang can eat it when it gets bigger
hope it works out

how bout some response on this idea?
tell what you think

well the reason i did this is the fact i dont have a dedicated fuge yet
but it will suffice till i get one plumbed into my new setup

I think it would work great as a way to allow it to grow and simply be pruned, so to speak, by the tang. Just make sure the holes are big enough that it will actually grow through, otherwise it'll just bunch up inside.

Nice idea!

holes are 1/4 inch thick
about 24 of them in a 1 gallon kritter cage (for goldfish, etc)
it has had an effect on my water quality already
my trates are at 10 used ot be at 20 +
is starting to grow some
should i anchor it in sand or let it float?

I thought of the same thing, but instead my husband and I built a HOB fuge.

But what if you drilled a hole large enough to accept the output from a mini powerhead? Then you could use the ph's suction cup to help hold it to the tank glass. You would certainly increase circulation through the crittter cage then.
