I have a few moss balls (marimo) I dont know if they are the "real or fake" kind but I saw people have cut then or unraveled them and glued them to things so i tried something with them I'll put a pic.. has anyone here done anything with them involving cutting or anything and do they still grow and stay healthy after?
(I stabbed a hole through each one and slid them onto wood no glueing)

I am also curious about these moss balls, I didn’t realize there was fakes?

The fake ones look like ping pong balls covered with green fuzz to me. The real ones can be squished flat pretty much since they are a type of algae

Is there any benefit to a moss ball, or should I just invest in some actual moss

Moss balls are pretty much indestructible but grow slowly
Moss is easy but can die but it grows quickly

they both do the same thing it's just about what you want in a look I guess.

I use my moss balls just as they are along the bottom as a *carpet* but I have seen people flatten them and in the spring when weather allows me to ship safely I may get some more and try that when I change tanks.
