Hi I brought 6 neon tetras on Tuesday morning. They seem to have settled in ok. I have noticed that most of the time 5 are always to tether and there is always 1 on its own. Is this normal?

I have seen this type of behavior before. It is probably ok.

Anything abnormal about the loner? Does the loner's gills look more reddish, or any spots or anything on the loner?

Hi no they all look normal and healthy swimming round fine and they all eat. Haven't seen any bullying or anything like that. I was going to get 6 more but don't know if that's a good idea now.

I'm pretty sure it's normal, but I would still keep an eye on him just in case he is not feeling well and that is the reason. One of my cardinals does that, he schools some of the time but also likes his own company. I've also got 6 hatchetfish, one of which thinks it is a bleeding heart tetra and prefers to school with them instead!
