I just got a 90 gallon tank and its going to be a freshwater tank with sand. I have an already established planted 20 gallon aquarium but the problem is it has some algae in it. I was wondering if i where to take the filter from the 20 gall and use it to seed my 90 gall tank would it transfer algae to it? Also if it wont infect the new tank with algae how long will it take to cycle my 90 gall if i use the filter media?

There is no telling on how long a seeded tank will tank to cycle except that it will be much faster than if you don't seed it. Not sure on the algae, but really algae finds a way into any tank and doesn't need a transfer to show up, so personally I wouldn't worry about it.
