Hello all! I just wanted to show off my new Red Spotted Severum I picked up today! I've been looking for a peaceful yet bigger Cichlid for my 60 gallon and I've certainly found it!

Thanks you two!
Mike, what happened to yours? And I'm correct in saying you too had a Red Spot?

Thanks. Yeah the markings have changed as it's grown.

Definitely has been a gentle giant for me. It's 8 inches now I would say.

Can you put these in a community tank? I have read mixed opinions, curious on you experience.

Mine is with loaches (including kuhlis), plecos, Denison barbs, pearl gouramis, rainbows, Bolivian rams and a chocolate cichlid.

In my experience they are community safe but I'm sure someone else will say they killed this and that fish. They're live animals not robots so your results may vary.

The only thing mine killed were plants.

It really depends what is in your community.

Severums are mostly peaceful, but they may retaliate against something who they perceive to be attacking it.

So, for example, most non-nippy tetras will be fine with Severums(Avoid the really small ones like neons, mine never predated smaller fish but you never know).

So, what community fish were you thinking on keeping with them?

Wow beautiful fish! Good luck with that fella :D

Very nice looking fish.

Personally though, ive owned 3 in the past and found them to lack the rowdyness that i like in my cichlids, theyre generally a bit on the meek side so ive traded them all.

Its my view that they do best with there own type plus Uaru, the more agressive cichlids put them in their shell somewhat.

Very nice! I had two nice ones (about 5-6") and they were the highlight of the tank. Not aggrasive but didnt put up with anything either, just crusied all over the tank (120gal)They were both killed about 2 weeks apart and I have no idea what happened, never saw them being picked on - just found them dead in the morning. I only have one fish that is bigger than them (cant think of the name right now) but I never saw them fight. They arent common around here (Minneapolis) but I would get them again
