New used 44 gal Tank

Got a forty four gallon corner tank used yesterday.

I filled it in my garage to make sure it doesn't leak. Drained it brought it in and set it up. Filter is running and I am going to pick up some ammonia to fishless cycle. Moving some filter medium over to speed things up.

Hoping for a quick cycle, I have two fancy goldfish I am going to move over.

There are to lighten the top, one is a black light anyone know what this is for?

Black ligh or moon light? Black lights are for glo fish. Moon light is so you can see the fish at night with a nook like glow.

I lost my Ryukin to SBD so I have two fish left. Can't wait for them to get in their new home

Just added live plants, liquid fert and two fake grass plants. Dosed it with 7 ml of ammonia I am gonna let it sit for an hour than add some established filter medium

Got a better bulb and some air stones as well

Oddly I seemed to have skipped nitrites and gone straight to nitrates.

I dosed back up to 4ppm this morning

Ammo 4ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm

I am thinking of doing one more Goldie and a rubber-lip Pleco. So 3FGF and the Pleco. With regular water changes I think that should be manageable.

Did a 50% pwc yesterday redosed to 3ppm amo

Nitrate 40ppm
Ph 7.6

I did a 60% pwc just so I can hopefully read the nitrite tomorrow. Redosed back to 4 ppm

So I realized my Nitrite has not been 5ppm it has been off the charts this whole time.


So I did 2 50%pwc an it was still off the charts. So I did a 90% pwc and it is now about 3.


I redosed back to 4ppm ammo and put fresh seed material in the filter.

Did another 90% pwc yesterday think I my Nitrites where at 4?

Nitrites over 5
Nitrates 80

My tank has no issues processing the ammo but Nitrites are still an issue

didn't test yesterday just doses it. Worked 15 hours was too tired.
