I have had my tank set up for a month now....I have 20lb of base rock, 10lb of live rock and 40lb of live sand.....I put a raw shrimp in my tank to start my cycle but I have yet to see an ammonia spike and its been 2 weeks....I check the water daily so I would be fully aware as to when the process started....but as of no spikes.

It may not be the problem but test strips aren't the best for salt - see if you can invest in some liquid test kits, they will give you much more accurate numbers. How big was the shrimp used for cycling?

I don't think test strips test for ammonia... But I may be wrong. I might get a lot of hate for this, but try a fish cycle. Get a couple green chromis. Worked for me and they are doing well.

Bectan01 it was a large shrimp
