Ok to paint filter intake pipe?

I had a spare intake tube so I painted it black to blend in more with the black background. Just curious if it's safe for the fish. I didn't use it yet. Was just a thought.

Depends on the paint you used. I painted mine with krylon fusion (or however you spell it), since it is one of the few proven to be safe under water.

Oh well... I had a can of rust-oleum laying around so I shot it with paint. Doesn't say anything about being safe for underwater or not being safe for that matter. I don't wanna take the chance.

Well that was a bust. Should have called first. Just got off the phone with a rep. Not safe for underwater. It will blister,peel and come off. Oh well...

Going to get fusion now at the depot.

are you able to paint over the rust oleum with krylon fusion or do you have to strip that paint off?

I can cover it with Krylon. Only did one coat.
