I found a great price on a 125 gallon custom made tank. But it comes with a pleco an oscar and a dempsy. I am a beginner having taken care of bettas, tetras and corys. The guy that owns the tank said "It's easy I just feed them dog food every 3-4 days". That seems odd to me and being a beginner I am iffy about taking them on.

Opinions? Advice?

They really are great fish, you should take them if you like them...I wouldn't let learning to care for them steer you away, they are pretty easy IMO.

Clean filtered water with regular changes and a proper diet should work great!

As for the dog food advise I'd toss that out the window and go for a quality pellet.

The biggest problem is they are chiclids. This means that plants plastic, silk or real will be floating in a few days. They love to move the substrate around. They are great fish I had both together for years.
