My overflow is sounding like a frequently flushed toilet. I'm wondering if there is anything that I can do to silence the beast. I've attached a picture of my overflow setup.

Thanks in advance.

Drain pipe is below the water in the sump. It's about 4 inches under. There is a lot of air bubbles in the tube where it drains into the sump

Sometimes if the drain is too far underwater it can cause back pressure resulting in a swirling effect in the drain pipe.

Is that elbow in a drain box or just in the tank?

It's an elbow in the overflow box.

The water level rises up a bit on the elbow and then the water starts flowing down to the sump.....then the water level drops quickly and the noise starts.

I think it's because it's sucking air at the mouth of the elbow in the overflow. I took a small cup and filled up the overflow box with more water and it started pulling it straight down to the sump with no noise and then it drained the water very quickly and the water level dropped back to just to the edge of the elbow and it's making that slurping sound again.

CRAP! I forgot the airhole at the top of the elbow! I was supposed to put an airhole at the top of the elbow outside of the tank with a tube on it. Duhhh!
