Wat does it mean wen my pleco has its spikes up does it mean he is angry or happy ???

I believe it just means it feels threatened and is trying to be intimidating. My Bristlenose Pleco does it when my hand gets too close for his comfort during a water change.

What type of plec, and what size tank? If the tank is small, my bets are on stress.

I don't know about stress doing it. IMO it seems like more of a defense mechanism. I, too would like to know the species and tank size.
