Proper Protien skimmer and external pump.

I am upgrading to a 20" x 9" x 16" rfugium tomorrow. I'd like to get a extrenal protien skimmer to leave more room in the sump and I want to replace my pump. The pump is at least 6 years old. Please advise! Oh my tank is a 54 gallon bow(that's why the sump/refugium is so small it used to be 14" x 7" x 12" ) I can't figure out the correct GPH for my tank in regards to the pump and skimmer.

So, the tank return will go thru the sump and skimmer. Same pump or are you looking to skim @ a different GPH rate than the tank return thru the fuge?
