I'm setting up a 55 gallon freshwater planted tank. I want to build a sump with a refugium and the tank is not drilled so I'm going to use an external overflow box. I also plan on eventually upgrading to a 155 so i dont want to have to buy everything twice. I would like to use a pump, overflow box, sump, etc that would also be suitable on a 155. Here are the questions:
- The stand can only accommodate a sump of about 15 gallons. That seems barely adequate for a 55 let alone a 155. I'm thinking of turning my empty 29gal tank into a sump and having it on the stand next to the 55. Is this a good idea? And would a standard 29 gal fit in a stand for a 155 and be adequate?
- If the mutated 29gal is a bad idea or wont be adequate for a 155 anyway can I use a pump and overflow box suitable for a much larger sump on this 15gal sump?
- How many gph do I want my return pump to put out? Is there some kind of formula? Or is bigger better as long as my overflow box is a bit bigger?
Thanks for all the help everyone
