hellooo... i'm interested in making my 55gal a planted tank... considering i need to remove the gravel to add substrate, i'd think the best way to do that would be to empty the tank? what would be the best thing to do regarding the water, etc, that would cause the least agitation to my fish? i've looked around this forum but it seems most people are making new tanks into planted ones and adding fish after, so i'm not really sure.
on the topic of fish, how much of a problem would i be looking at making a planted considering the species i have: 1 common plec0 (i'll likely be giving him to lfs once he tops 9 inches or so, he's currently 5.5-6), 2 bala sharks (one 5-5.5, one 2.5-3 inches), 3 clown loaches (2-2.5), 1 green tiger barb, 1 pictus cat (3-3.5), 1... chinese algae eater i believe, and 1 unidentified cat (was given to me with the loaches & the barb). most of what i've read says these fish like and do well in planted tanks, i guess it's just the size that might not work so well... any thoughts would be appreciated =)
