Went to the most LFS, and they had the prettiest red rainbow! I had to have him or her? How do I tell the sex difference? And in your experiences, what are their downfalls? It is the biggest fish in the tank, next is a GBR. Thanks!

Rainbows are awesome! I would say the downfall in your case is that you have pretty small tanks and they are very active fish! Other than that they are peaceful and hardy:)

You probably have Glossolepis incisus. Beautiful fish, but they will need at least a 55-gallon tank. The females are nowhere near as red as the males; females actually look brownish. Males are vertically larger, too, and the intensity of the red changes with water temperature.
