Is this dead marine rock safe for cichlids?

It's fine for Malawi or Tanganykian cichlids, helps buffer the pH and hardness of the water same as crushed coral. Not something you'd want to use for soft/acidic-water species though...

Technically the rocks themselves arent alive its the stuff that live live/grows on them. Just make sure all the "dead left overs" are taken off the rocks and it should be fine, it will buffer the water quit a bit.
