I collected a number of rocks from my creek in front of my house. I scrubbed them and boiled them for 30 minutes. I then figured I should check and see if I need to worry about pH levels changing, and I could not find any exact information.

Here is all the info I have on the rocks:

Taken from a stream in Richmond, VA, USA

Some are white and sort of egg shaped.
Some are more jagged and sort of a darker tan.
Some are most definitely granite.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Won't that only tell me if there is calcium on the rock? I'm not too concerned about water hardness as the water in my area is fairly soft...

Yes, it will tell you if the pH will be altered by the rocks. Do you have pics of the rocks?

When I wanted to make sure that the rocks I used to build a little cave were safe I soaked them in a bucket for 2 weeks and checked to make sure that the PH wasn't affected. I've read that using the vinegar trick isn't always sufficient.
