So I want to start a saltwater tank, my budget is around 300 dollars and the minimum tank size would be 5.5 gallons. I don’t need corals but could you tell me the stuff I need, what you like or recommend and the price of it. Thank you

Tanks under 10-20 gallons can only support minimal livestock, limited to inverts.
Our systems run off of 1 lbs per gallon of both rock and sand. This powers the nitrate cycle, which is then managed by weekly 10% water changes.
I’d suggest reading through our articles section.

Tight budget = watch Craigslist & local Facebook “For Sale” pages. And be patient…

I’ve twice scored pretty well, once through each method.

Got a complete 75g setup for $200 locally on Craigslist a couple of years ago, and I drove about 250 miles round trip yesterday for a $200 complete 110g off Facebook. Both included stands…

Bear in mind that you might have some cleanup and plumbing work in store, but it’s worth the trouble if you’re careful about your seller…

Yesterday’s score:
