Sand substrate

I would love to have sand in my 20 gallon when I set it up, but my question is, can I use sand with an internal filter or will it clog? The filter is a Tetra Whisper 10-30i.

If the filter is suspended off the substrate it should be fine unless any of your fish like to dig. Helped a friend with her tank and we ended up pulling a cup of sand out of her canister because they liked digging soo much.
