in the cup and made lil foam inside , the micro bubbles are maybe 1 inch below from where the water comes out . when usually a skimmer start working properly ?(i know is a cheap one but is all i can work w right now), and i bought some reef stew to feed my damsel and corals that i have . do i have to stop the skimmer while i do that ?

Yes these skimmers are not that good I have 2 of them

What I did to improve them was first I bored out the intake skimmer that hold the foam sleeve bore out the 3 holes around the hose make them about 1/8 inch
that will make a big difference

I also called marineland and ordered the upgraded intake propeller it has 8 fins
these 2 small upgrades improved the performance of the skimmers
I get around a cup of skim every other day now
these skimmers require a lot of attention just to keep them running

To start your skimmer close air intake let it run overnight
giving any air pockets a chance to get out
in morn slowly open air intake watching for bubbles to form in the vortex
once you see bubbles you just need to fine tune it so it skims opening and closing the intake valve you will hear when the skimmer catches the hum of the pump will change
good luck as these skimmers are no fun

as for feeding your fish no you do not need to shut off skimmer
