Second hand canister filter

I just bought a 2nd hand fluval 205 canister filter. It arrived and seems to be working fine question is the media and sponge inside are still wet. Should this be ok or should I change them???? Any info would be great thanks

If you can't guarantee that it did not come from a tank that wasn't sick or diseased, why risk it ? Dump it and sterilize it. Media is cheaper than fish.
