After a day, and clear thinking, I came to the following conclusions.
Once my fish started recovering from the Maracin 2 treatment, I should have used a lesser dose of Melafix, gradually raised the dosage and see if this worked. If it
didn't then I could have tried a second dose of maracin 2. Also
specially with sick fish gradual changes are very important. Finally, when treating sick fish and making changes, it is good to observe every 5 10 10 minutes for 2 hours and then half hour or so for a day. That way if there are signs of stress etc., quick remedial action can be taken without much delay.
This fish was my favorite and admired guy. He has taught me a lot
about how to treat all other future fish, specially when they get
sick. It is amazing how one can get attached to such small creatures.
One last reassurance for me is that I was sincere in all my efforts
till the very end and I wasn't knowingly negligent.
