Hi, looking for some advice.
One of my tanks is not doing well and i can't figure outwhy. It's a 2 year old 20 gallon. It s home to 2 female guppies and 6 neon tetra. Water temp kept between 78-80 degrees with a heater, air stone, hob filter. Some guppy grass in there as well. Have be doing biweekly 25% water changes, (biweekly because weekly always seemed to stress out my tetras too much)
2 weeks ago noticed one of my tetra had a growth on its mouth, couldn't confirm what it was exactly, but with some internet searching thought I'd just try adding some aquarium salt.( I don't like medicating and i do not have a spare hospital tank. ) i was really worried about adding the salt so i only added a 1/4 tsp... i know not really enough to do anything..
Nothing really changed, growth got bigger although the neon did not act any different still ate and schooled looked normal.
Few days later, my guppies started hiding at the top of the tank, not gasping just hiding.. neons were always hiding at this time as well but at the bottom of the tank. All fish would come out for a bit at feeding time though.
I was at a loss on what was wrong. So though i would try tetra life guard "all in one dummy proof" treatment. Regret... only made it to day 4, all my little guys looked worse, my tetras have little patches on them, faded color..
So last night i decided to do a 75% water change to try and stop some of the damage.. don't know what else to try. This morning everyone is alive, but no changes in their behavior. Probably super stressed from the huge water change on top of everything else.
Ill try to get some pictures but they are tough to get due the hiding.
