Shouldn't I see all the little particles in my tank being sucked into the sponge. Because they're all just floating around and not getting sucked on to it
dont worry. this takes time, and sometimes theres simply too many particles so u have to do a pwc.
1) what fish?
2) how big is the tank?
3) have u got sand or gravel?

For a 29 gallon, I'd probably get a HOB or canister filter. If you want to breed your RCS and are worried about the filters sucking up the eggs and baby shrimp, you can add a mesh to the filter inlet when your shrimp are berried.
