starting a new african tank

I have south american cichlids but want to start an african tank what is the best lake to focus on or can i mix fish from different lakes i am looking for good colorful fish i am going to use a 55 gal tnk

What size tank are you doing? Do not mix from different lakes. In order to make recommendations we do need a tank size though.
