Starting the cycle

Just trying to get the cycle started, and I was going to just add a cube of frozen plankton. This will get the job done right? Will I need to add additional cubes or should 1 get the job done.

I was going to go buy a shrimp at the store, but I figured any thing that is dead would probably get the cycle going. Am I correct with this thinking? Does it really make a difference with wqhat I start the cycle with?

well what size tank are you running? that will determine how many "cubes" you will need to add. I am currently cycling my 150gallon with three raw jumbo shrimp....it smells but it seems to be doing the job.

It is for a 20 gal long.

I don't know about plankton. I think you want to use a meaty frozen food to develope the waste products. I used 3 cubes in main and it worked well. Was too lazy to go to the grocery store.
