Depends what cichlids you're talking about. Some are 3" and some grow upwards of 10". Some are very aggressive and some are more docile. Are you wanting males and females? Breeding them causes more aggression so I'd get less. If you pick a few you like I'm sure we can tell you if they're compatible and how many of each you should get.
