Stocking ideas?

Have a 29gal.with two upside down catfish and a couple track snails .I want to put a convict cichlid in there but wich is best a male or female or both and what else goes with convict getting 40 gal in a few months.and catfish are tiny like just over 1 inch right now..any suggestions welcome thanks.

I wouldn't get a convict as they can be aggressive to an extent. If you really like them, I would say a male or female would be ok but not both unless you want to deal with tons and tons of babies.
