Strange appearance

Can anyone tell me what these are? Was doing a PWC today and cleaning up when I noticed these.

They are really hard to explain. Kinda looks like a cotton ball with some diatom on it. Any clues? Really need to know if I have to take it out of my tank!!!

Some kind of mold or a sponge maybe? It looks a little moldy fuzzy...

Ok. What should I do??? Take em out? Leave em? Scratch at the glass like a cat til I annoy them into leaving??? Lol. But seriously...

They look like sponge leave it in, they are a sign of a healthy tank.

Whew. Sweet. Do they just randomly pop up in tanks? Or should I watch for multiplication just in case?
