I'd keep dosing ammonia at least to 2-3; you don't want to not dose too long or else the bacteria adjust to the smaller dose. You've also done a sufficient amount of water changes so I'd say you're ok for at least a few days there. What type of ammonia are you using? Did you start the cycle with any seeded media or bacteria starters? The nitrite phase is the longest of the phases and can test patience lol I don't see any reason why they shouldn't come down to 0 eventually. Do you have an air stone in the barrel or any sort of surface movement to promote oxygen exchange?
Nitrites have been off the charts for a month (since oct 21), I started a week before that. It only took about 5 days for them to spike, and a couple days after that, nitrAtes were almost 80. Progressed fast, but been stuck here ever since. A whole month now w nitrite spike. I have an airstone, a 200 filter that had a filter pad from another tank that may have been in a mini cycle (but I'm sure it had some BB on it). I also added a homemade mini skippy filter, a couple weeks ago, which will be my main filter after this seasoned one gets it stable. I will run them both for a while. 0 nitrites in my tap. Using Ace janitorial 10%. No bacteria in a bottle stuff used. Ok, so I'll go add a bit more ammo to get it to 2. So if it's off the charts tomorrow, I should just leave it and dose it to 2 again?!?
