substrate for saltwater aquarium?

I think that there is no right or wrong. There is absolutely nothing wrong going with live sand. It comes with BB and I've never heard of unwanted hitchhikers in that. Not saying it doesn't happen, just never heard of it. Live rock is usually where you hear about that, but you often get great additions going that route with rock. Just depends. I used crushed coral in some old tanks and agree that it can be more difficult to keep clean looking. I prefer sand now. You really can't go wrong any way you go, IMO.
