i have read some article about sump/refugium.
one Q, why can't we use pump for the intake section?
if not using a pump, how is the water going to flow down to the sump?

i have my sump below my tank and i do not want to drill my tank. to scare to do that.

Water gets into the sump underneath via an overflow tube. An overflow box is used to keep the syphon under water, in case a power outage happens, and to regulate water flow. No downflow pump is needed... just one to bring water from your sump to your main tank above (tube just works off of gravity, so water just spills down through the pipe). Check out some pics I posted here just now for some views on how they work.

I bought mine on ebay... Amiracle. CPR also makes one, so does a few other companies. If you're new to them, I would suggest just buying them from a LFS or online... should be around $50 each. I got two on ebay for $20 total

If you can stand to experiment with designs, check out the DIY forum for Lee's specimine container DIY overflow boxes... only if you're handy. :D
