Tap Water or R/O?

I've had saltwater tanks for awhile and have always used R/O water because tap water has a lot of things that caused bad algae in saltwater. Is this the same for a planted tank or do the plants benefit from treated tap water or R/O more?

You need that stuff in FW for bacteria, fish and plants to thrive, just use Prime and you should be good to go. SW tanks put the essentials back in the water using Instant Ocean and whatnot.
