Tetra Easy Crystal Filter Pack Help!!!

Hi,

I am changing my filter pack for the first time since i started my tank about 3 months ago. Should i place the new filter pack in the tank somewhere before i remove the old one to ensure i don't loose any bacteria?
Can i literally just float this in the tank?

You probably have enough bacteria on your substrate and the bio-grid inside of the filter to not worry about it. When you clean the filter can you remove that grid?
There should be enough bacteria on it to colonize your new filter cartridge, but you could float the old cartridge in the tank if you want to. I would clean it out in old tank water and a bucket first.
