I love thermal compacts..they are hard to set but reliable as hell!
I have the 25 watt model in tanks as small as 3 gal minis with no fluctuations.
Some of the pre-sets I have allow the tanks to get too cool. But they don't fluctuate and that is always a good thing. I notice the automatic Ebos allow the tank to get cooler too.

I have one on my tank. I've never once had to adjust it, and never had the temp even move, not even 1 degree!

I swear by these, IMHO better than Visi-Therm and Ebo's. :D

I have them in every tank I run except the SW, and thats only because the heater came with the SW.

I've never had any problems with them keeping the temp.

My only problem is in the summer time when the heat makes my tanks skyrocket in temp, but thats not related to the heaters.

Well, I have a 300watt for my 30gal that I'll be setting up soon.

If price is no object, overkill is always good. Thats my motto atleast.

in my opinion overkill can be a bad thing on a heater. haha. i stick to the 5 watts per gallon rule. has worked great on the 3 different tanks ive had. so on that 55 gallon i would actually go for the 300. just my opinion though. :)
