When I gravel clean my tank (the substrate is some kind of 'live' ECO gravel populated with a fair few MTS) I pull up small pea size balls of what look like tubifex worms. I inherited the substrate and it may have been in a tank fed tubifex worms on the past. I have not.
I dropped one little ball into my nursery tank and the young black neons and Cory's went bonkers for them. I should point out that these tubifex are quite thin and maybe 1" long when they venture out if the ball before being snaffled.
I know the possible problems of contamination from buying LFS tubifex but what is the general thinking about using your own 'colonies' (and I have only found 4 in the last 4 gravel cleans) to feed your young fish as a treat.
I now know what the corys in my main tank have been digging for!
Opinions please ........
