Ive never seen one of those, but until you get it ID'd I'd get it out of your tank and hold it in a sump or fuge if you have one. Usually "hairy" crabs are bad.

Even hairy hermits? I thought the rule was just for other crabs. He has been in the tank for over a month now...just haven't gotten around to asking about him. He seems to only eat algae..hes always on the rock picking at it.

okay i believe its a Dardanus lagopodes...now to research more and see if he is safe

Well im not finding much about them but from what i gather he will get pretty big...we have no shells bigger than the one he has though. I think he is fine in there for now but he will be moved to the sump once he gets bigger and starts causing trouble
